The Legal Advisor plays a pivotal role in providing legal services to the ECO Secretary General, officials of the Secretariat, and the Organization as a whole. His responsibilities include preparing and providing legal opinions and offering advice on the interpretation of ECO’s foundational documents. Additionally, the Legal Advisor actively contributes to the drafting of agreements, rules and regulations that govern the Organization. He also assists in the preparation and refinement of the basic documents and procedural rules for ECO’s subsidiary and affiliated bodies.
The Legal Advisor participates in all meetings of ECO’s decision-making bodies, where he may be called upon to provide legal opinions on complex or contentious issues. Furthermore, He serves as a member of various standing and ad-hoc committees within ECO, whether at the intergovernmental level or within the Secretariat.
In his capacity as a key legal resource, the Legal Advisor facilitates the Secretary General in his role as the depository of ECO agreements, ensuring the proper management and interpretation of these legal instruments. He also provides expert advice on matters related to the credentials of representatives attending ECO meetings, ensuring compliance with procedural and legal requirements
