The Virtual Meeting of the Fourth “Dialogue on an effective Multilateral Policing Architecture against Global Threats” was organized by the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) on May 20, 2020. The meeting was attended by Representatives of INTERPOL, EUROPOL, GCCPOL, ASEANPOL, AFRIPOL, AMERIPOL, and UNODC. ECO Secretariat delegation, headed by ECO Deputy Secretary General participated in the Meeting.
The Meeting was inaugurated by H.E. Mr. Jurgen Stock, Secretary General of INTERPOL. In his statement, he expressed his gratitude to the INTERPOL Member States as well as the regional and international organizations for participating in the virtual event. He emphasized the significance of data management during the COVID 19 outbreak and touched upon the ways to systematically share the information among the police organizations. He also expressed confidence that the meeting would contribute to strengthening the regional police cooperation.
In his opening statement, ECO Deputy Secretary General Mr. Jandos Asanov expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation to the INTERPOL Organization for making excellent arrangements with regards to organizing the event. He further briefed the Meeting about ECO`s profile and recent progress in advancing regional cooperation for formulating ECO regional policies and actions, including those pursued as regards addressing the menace of transnational organized crime.
During the exchange of views, the participants in the videoconference recognized the importance of multilateral law-enforcement cooperation in times of emergency, such as the recent COVID-19 pandemic, given the inherent cross-border nature of criminal threats arising from the pandemic and related containment measures. The participants also acknowledged the challenges facing international cooperation in these uncertain times, yet recognized the opportunities provided by the virtual meeting to ensure continuous involvement.
