The Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Islamic Republic of Iran, H.E. Ms. Nikolina Kuneva visited the Secretariat of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) on April 5, 2023.

The ECO Secretary General Mr. Khusrav Noziri received Ambassador Nikolina and briefed her on ECO and its prominent activities, focusing on the Organization’s development priorities, especially regional transport sector. Appreciating the interest expressed by some Bulgarian companies for joining ECO regional connectivity projects, particularly the Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul (ITI) Corridor, he outlined the general policy of the Organization on expansion of ECO transport networks to other regions and the international markets. In addition, the Secretary General summarized the status of ECO collaboration with various regional and international organizations in fields of trade, transport, energy, environment and food security, etc. Moreover, he appeared delighted to recall that the recently held meeting of the ECO Regional Planning Council (RPC) welcomed the Bulgarian companies to join the ITI Corridor.

Ambassador Nikolina acknowledged the importance of ECO for consolidating the process of economic development in the region, appreciating the receptivity and forthcomingness expressed by ECO towards maintaining working relationship with Bulgaria. Expressing pleasure over her visit to ECO, she believed that this would lead to paving way forward for the promotion of cooperation and continued interactions between ECO and Bulgaria.

The possibility of diversifying ECO-Bulgaria bilateral relationship was also explored during the meeting.
