In its 13th Session, the High-Level Working Group (HLWG) on Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul (ITI) Train met at Istanbul. Held on June 8, 2023 and co-organized by the Republic of Türkiye and the ECO Secretariat, the meeting was attended by delegations from Iran, Pakistan and Türkiye as well as the Representatives of the ECO Trade and Development Bank, Islamic Development Bank and private sector.  

Looking into various aspects, issues and requirements of ITI Train, including the containerization and digitalization of procedures between corridor’s en-route countries, the Working Group reviewed overall operational status of the ITI Train. The need to mobilize the infrastructure development as well as possibility of seeking monetary assistance from ECO-TDB and IsDB to this end, were also explored during the meeting. 

The Working Group, inter alia, discussed recent infrastructural development and rolling stock capacity of the en-route countries, rehabilitation of Zahedan-Taftan-Quetta portion of the corridor, status of establishment of the logistic center in Zahedan, diversification of the origination and destination stations, tariffs, time table, establishing multimodal transport using road and railway modes, interest of Bulgarian private sector in the corridor.
