Economic Cooperation Organization

A group of students of Department of International Relations led by Dr. Nasrin Mosaffa Professor of International Relations and Vice-Dean for Executive and Financial Affairs, Faculty of Law and Political Science, University of Tehran visited the ECO Secretariat on 29th November, 2018.

A group of students of Department of International Relations led by Dr. Nasrin Mosaffa Professor of International Relations and Vice-Dean for Executive and Financial Affairs, Faculty of Law and Political Science, University of Tehran visited the ECO Secretariat on 29th November, 2018. The briefing for the guests was conducted in two segments. In the first segment, Excellency Secretary General Dr. Hadi Soleimanpour, warmly welcomed the distinguished students and dilated upon the historical relations of the ECO Member States along the fabled Silk Route spanned over centuries, its modern form of cooperation in the shape of RCD and ECO, Vision 2025, areas of activities and the reform process through which he is endeavoring to make ECO a vibrant and dynamic organization. He indicated that he has planned to pursue the ECO goals through more projects in multiple spheres and areas to enhance its visibility and ownership of the member countries.

In second segment, Mr. Kanan Nazarov, the ECO Deputy Secretary General, chaired and moderated the interactive session of the Directors/Representatives of the Directorates and the students. Mr. Muhammad Safdar, In charge of Trade, in his presentation provided overview of the organization and region and its economic profile. He also highlighted major activities, agreements, institution/bodies and projects relating to the Directorate of Trade and Investment (T&I). Ms. Bayan Adilbekova from the Directorate of Transport and Communications (T&C) also made a presentation about major ECO's Road and Rail Corridors connecting the North-South and East-west of the Region and highlighted various initiatives and projects under Transit Transport Framework agreement (TTFA). Afterwards, Mr. Abolfazl Azizipanah in his briefing underlined projects and activities handled/ managed under the Directorate of Energy, Minerals and Environment (EME). The presemtations/briefing was followed by extensive interactive and questions and answers session.

The Meeting concluded with thanks to the Chair/moderator, Mr. Kanan Nazarov who along with ECO Team graciously responded to all insightful queries of the students. He opined that such interactions with the academic institutions are very productive.
The Head of the Delegation appreciated the Chair and the representatives of the ECO directorates for their useful presentations/briefing and termed it very fruitful expanding horizon and exposure of the students. In the end, the Deputy Secretary General affirmed to continue such cooperation in future as well.
