Mr. Cagatay Emrah Ongut

Mr Cagatay Emrah Ongut of Turkiye serves as the Economic Cooperation Organization’s Deputy Secretary General since 28 November 2024. As the Deputy Secretary General, he is responsible for assisting the Secretary General in the areas of energy, mining and environment sectors, administrative issues and international relations. 

Before taking up his post, Mr Ongut was the Deputy General Director at the Presidency of Strategy and Budget of the Presidency of Turkiye. Mr Ongut has around twenty-five years of professional experience in planning and policy formulation most particularly in the areas of investment policy and industrial policy. 

Mr. Ongut holds a Master of Public Administration degree from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University in New York, USA; a Bachelor of Law degree from Kirikkale University in Turkiye; and a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from Istanbul Technical University in Turkiye.

Mr. Ongut is married to Arife Ongut, and they have two sons.
