The newly appointed Deputy Head of Mission of Republic of Tajikistan in the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Marufjon Abdurahmonov, paid a visit to the ECO Secretariat, Tehran on September 23, 2020. He was welcomed by the Deputy Secretary General of ECO, Ambassador Huseyin Avni Bicakli.
During the meeting, Ambassador Huseyin Avni Bicakli acknowledged the significant role of Tajikistan in pursuit of regional cooperation among the members of ECO. He expressed ECO’s deep appreciation to Tajikistan for strengthening the organization’s activities in various fields during the Tajikistan’s Chairmanship. On the occasion, the Head of International Relations Section, Mr. Muhammad Farooq provided an overview of the ECO’s activities and its cooperative relations with different international and regional organizations. While briefing about the ongoing projects and future plans in various fields, Ambassador Bicakli highlighted the key features of ECO Vision 2025 and explained the strategic goals of the Vision in priority areas of cooperation including trade, transport, industrial development, energy and environment. The two sides also exchanged views on enhancing the ECO’s role in regional development.
Mr. Marufjon Abdurahmonov thanked the ECO Deputy Secretary General, Ambassador Bicakli, for providing such a detailed and informative briefing and appreciated the role of ECO in promoting regional cooperation. He specifically proposed to enhance cooperation in the energy field. He also expressed his full support towards activities of the ECO during his tenure in Tehran. At the end of the meeting, the two sides reassured their commitment for strengthening regional cooperation to materialize the goals of the ECO Vision 2025.
