An ECO delegation headed by Secretary General Ambassador Khusrav Noziri participated in the 25th Session of the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) being held in Samarkand on 16-20 October 2023.

While inaugurating the event, the Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan H.E. Aziz Abdukhakimov informed about the latest developments in the country’s tourism sector. According to the Minister, Uzbekistan hosted more than 5.2 million tourists in 2022 and plans to increase this number to 10 million soon.

The Secretary General of UNWTO Ambassador Zurab Pololikashvili, praising Uzbekistan’s successful developments in tourism, announced the Tourism Investment Guide for Uzbekistan prepared in collaboration with UNWTO.  Ms. Natalia Bayona, Executive Director of UNWTO also delivered a presentation on the global tourism investments trends and opportunities.

Participating in the panel discussion of High-Level Dialogue with Ministers, the ECO Secretary General Ambassador Khusrav Noziri briefed the panel about ECO’s initiatives in the tourism sector. He further emphasized the significance of the attracting investments in tourism, as well as the necessity to improve connectivity in line with the tourism potential of the ECO region.
