ECO Delegation Attends the 12th Session of Conference of Tourism Ministers of the OIC
The Economic Cooperation Organization delegation, led by Secretary General Ambassador Khusrav Noziri participated in the 12th Session of Islamic Conference of Tourism Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation held in the Tourism City of the Islamic World for 2024 – Khiva, Uzbekistan on 2 June 2024. The high-level event was attended by the Tourism Ministers of the OIC Member States as well as the representatives of the international and regional organizations.
Chairing the session, H.E. Mr. Aziz Abdukhakimov informed about tourism development of Uzbekistan and shared tourism initiatives which can be implemented in the framework of the OIC.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Noziri underlined that, as a priority area for regional development and cooperation, ECO aims at promoting the tourism destinations of its Member States under the ECO brand, involving the private sector and local communities, spreading sustainable tourism practices, enhancing stakeholder capacities and diversifying tourism products and services. Also highlighting major tourism initiatives of ECO such as ECO Tourism Capitals, ECO Tour Operators’ Network and others, Secretary General mentioned that ECO is ready to enhance cooperation with OIC in various fields on the basis of MoU signed between the two organizations in 1994. He further proposed organizing a joint ECO-OIC event focused on student exchange, mutual recognition of competencies and workforce training in tourism and conducting a joint research and events on health tourism.
The meeting discussed some decisions related to tourism development and implementation of relevant OIC projects, as well as progress in tourism infrastructure projects, OIC tourism fairs, and research and education initiatives for tourism sector.
