On 22 January 2025, Dr. Husnu Tekin, heading the ECO delegation, attended the ninth session of the Governing Council of the Asian and Pacific Centre for the Development of Disaster Information Management (APDIM) in Tehran. The session was hosted by the Islamic Republic of Iran, the new chairman of APDIM for 2025.
During the meeting, a comprehensive report on the administrative and financial status of the Centre, as well as its activities and progress in 2024, was presented. In the opening ceremony, Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of ESCAP, delivered remarks emphasizing the importance of APDIM and encouraging greater integration and collaboration among member states to enhance its impact.
The session focused on APDIM’s 2025 program, report , and evaluation of this center with member states sharing ideas to improve the Centre’s effectiveness in disaster information management.
In the closing session, participants adopted the APDIM report and approved the calendar of events for 2025, marking a step forward in strengthening regional cooperation in disaster management. The ECO delegation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting APDIM’s vision and fostering collaboration for enhanced resilience across the region.
