Deputy Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), Ambassador SilapberdiNurberdiyev, participated online as a keynote speaker at the Tenth North and Central Asia Multi-Stakeholder Forum on the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Opening the Forum, Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of ESCAP, highlighted the importance of knowledge-sharing, exchange of best practices, and strengthened regional cooperation to accelerate progress towards the SDGs by 2030.
In his remarks, Deputy Secretary General highlighted ECO’s efforts to advance sustainable development, including the First ECO Forum on Sustainable Development, held in 2025 in Arkadag, Turkmenistan, and the First ECO Youth Forum, convened on 1 July 2025 in Azerbaijan. He also outlined perspectives on the Strategic Document of the Organization for 2026–2035, emphasizing the importance of regional cooperation, policy dialogue, capacity-building, and technical cooperation in advancing sustainable development.
The Deputy Secretary General underscored the need to strengthen sustainable financing mechanisms, mobilize public and private resources, and address the SDG financing gap, particularly in climate resilience, clean energy, education, and health infrastructure.
The Forum brought together representatives from North and Central Asian countries, the United Nations, and regional organizations to exchange views on progress, challenges, and opportunities for further cooperation in advancing the SDGs.
ECO’s participation reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening regional and international partnerships and supporting collective efforts to accelerate implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development across the region.
