The Foreign Ministers of Member States gathered in the Shusha city of Azerbaijan to convene the 27th Meeting of the ECO Council of Ministers (COM) on October 10, 2023. During the meeting, ECO delegation was headed by Secretary General Ambassador Khusrav Noziri.
Chaired by Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan H.E. Mr. Jeyhun Bayramov, the COM meeting reviewed overall activities of the Organization made since its last interaction held in January this year. Given the emerging global challenges, the Council of Ministers encouraged the Member States and the ECO Secretariat to enhance their coordination and cooperative engagements with a view to containing the impacts of any such issues on the region’s socio-economic progress. The Council also adopted “Shusha Declaration” that concisely outlines the sector-wise policy instructions and guidelines of the COM, emphasizing the continued promotion of regional cooperation in multifaceted socioeconomic areas, as well as acceleration in activities for enhancing the worldwide visibility of the ECO. On the event’s sidelines, the Republic of Türkiye signed the Charter of ECO Clean Energy Center to be established in Baku soon.
ECO Observers, including the Foreign Minister of Turkish Cypriot State and the Deputy Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States, as well as Secretary General of CICA, as ECO International Partner, and the Heads of ECO Specialized Agencies/Regional Institutions, including Educational Institute, Cultural Institute, Science Foundation and Trade and Development Bank also attended the meeting.
The 28th Meeting of the COM will be hosted by Iran under country’s ECO Chairmanship in 2024.
