The ECO Secretariat organized the 2nd Task Force Meeting on establishment of the ECO Regional Electricity Market (ECO-REM) on 17 December 2025 in virtual mode. The participation of over thirty manager and expert-level delegates from all ECO Member States, as well as the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) as a core partner of the ECO-REM project manifested the deep interest and resolve in enhancement of regional power system connectivity linked to sustainable energy.
The programme particularly featured the in-depth consultations on recommendations of the “Regional Roadmap of Power System Connectivity – ECO Regional Electricity Market: promoting cross-border electricity connectivity for sustainable development”, developed by UNESCAP. The meeting overwhelmingly highlighted the need for further streamlining the ECO-REM project that fits well into the existing efforts to enhance regional power system connectivity by unlocking enormous electricity potential of the Member States and bringing benefits for larger integrated systems.
This Task Force represents a unique platform for fostering dialogue and paving the way for advancement of the ECO-REM project.
