ECO Secretariat took part in the 10th Session of the APDIM Governing Council and the Regional Expert Group Meeting on Inclusive Disaster Risk Data Governance. Dr. Husnu Tekin, Director of Human Resources and Sustainable Development, represented ECO at the events, which gathered around 30–35 senior officials from APDIM member states and observer organizations.

The meeting focused on strengthening inclusive disaster risk data governance, advancing impact-based forecasting and multi-hazard analytics, improving critical infrastructure resilience, and exploring responsible uses of emerging technologies, including AI.

Moderating Session II on “Multi-Hazard Analytics and Impact-Based Forecasting for Inclusive Risk Data Governance” Dr. Husnu Tekin emphasized the importance of integrating hazard, exposure, and vulnerability data to strengthen impact-based forecasting. He underscored the critical role of inclusive, people-centered early warning systems that are accessible and responsive to diverse risk conditions across communities.

Speaking at the opening, India’s Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, reaffirmed India’s commitment to regional disaster resilience and capacity building. During the Governing Council session, Iran formally handed over the APDIM Chairmanship for 2026 to India.

Participants shared national experiences and highlighted the need for standardized data sharing, integration of traditional knowledge, and stronger regional cooperation. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to enhance regional collaboration and implement innovative strategies for disaster risk reduction in the Asia-Pacific region.
