ECO participated in the 14th Governing Board Meeting of the Regional Centre on Urban Water Management (RCUWM–UNESCO). The meeting brought together representatives from Iraq, Armenia, Oman, Qatar, Türkiye, Iran, and Afghanistan, as well as key international organizations including UNESCO and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). ECO was represented by Dr. Husnu Tekin, Director of Human Resources and Sustainable Development.

In his intervention, Dr. Tekin reaffirmed ECO’s strong commitment to assisting its Member States in advancing integrated and sustainable water resources management in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He underscored ECO’s continued readiness to work closely with RCUWM, UNESCO, the wider UN system, and other international partners to foster knowledge exchange, harmonize methodologies, and scale up impactful regional initiatives.

Delegations emphasized the growing importance of enhanced regional cooperation to address shared water challenges. They highlighted the necessity of strengthening the exchange of best practices, promoting innovative water-management solutions, and expanding the use of advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, to improve the efficiency and sustainability of water resources.

Participants further stressed the urgent need to address the impacts of climate change, calling for reinforced collaborative efforts to protect lives and livelihoods, bolster food security, ensure sustainable water management, and advance environmental protection across the region.
