ECO Director for Human Resource and Sustainable Development Dr. Husnu Tekin attended the 2nd Baku Forum on Sustainable Development, on November 15-16, 2023. The Forum brought together experts and senior officials responsible for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda from national governments, non-government organizations, and private sectors as well as regional and international institutions.
In the inaugural ceremony of the Forum, H.E. Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of the Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, stated that %80 of total budget expenditures of Azerbaijan is somehow directly or indirectly related to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Azerbaijan aims to include private sector into SDG related projects.
The Forum specifically addressed the financing needs for the achievement of SDGs through mobilization of private sector investments towards SDGs and tapping into potential innovative financing.
Noting that “sustainability” was determined as one of the basic principles in the ECO Vision 2025, HRSD Director Dr. Husnu Tekin informed the Forum on ECO’s activities and ongoing projects related to SDGs. Dr. Tekin also highlighted the significance of the recent initiative by ECO on establishment of the High Level Sustainable Development Working Group to prepare an action plan for policy coherence on SDGs in the ECO Region.
