ECO Deputy Secretary General Mr. Kashif Zaman participated in the 80th Session of United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific (UNESCAP), held in Bangkok on April 22-26, 2024.
More than 800 participants from member States, associate members and permanent observers as well as representatives from academia, international organizations, business and civil society attended the session that explored how current and emerging digital innovations can address pressing issues like climate change, poverty eradication and gender equality. It also examined how governments can create enabling environments and proposes a framework to understand the interlinkages between digital innovations and sustainable development.
In his address during the High-Level dialogue on “Leveraging digital innovation for sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific”, the ECO Deputy Secretary General highlighted the importance of digitalization as a transformative force reshaping economies, governance structures and societal frameworks. He also underscored ECO’s collaboration with international partners including UNESCAP for advancing the collective goals of digital trade, transport infrastructure, digitalization of cross-border transport through smart road and rail solutions and disaster resilience strategies.
