On May 28, 2024, the ECO officials virtually participated in an interactive session on the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Action Line C6: Enabling Environment. The session was organized jointly by the International Telecommunication Union and the WSIS+20 Forum High-Level Event as part of the Digital Regulation Network (DRN) Initiative. Featuring active participation from Regional Regulatory Associations the session focused on shaping the future of regulation to drive sustainable digital transformation.

Mr. Akbar Khodaei, Director for Transport and Communications, ECO emphasized the importance of the DRN Initiative as a platform for fostering collaborative efforts towards an inclusive and effective regulatory environment in the digital era. He briefed the session on ECO initiatives to support the development and deployment of ICT in the region, including the “2025 ECO Regional Strategy for Information Society Development,” which outlines ECO’s vision for an integrated and well-regulated digital ecosystem, and the establishment of the “High-Level Working Group of Regulatory Authorities of the Member States” as a preparatory mechanism to for the ECO Regional Regulatory Framework.

The WSIS is a unique two-phase United Nations summit that was initiated in order to create an evolving multi-stakeholder platform aimed at addressing the issues raised by information and communication technologies through a structured and inclusive approach at the national, regional and international levels.
