Tehran – May 18, 2025

Economic Cooperation Organization extends its warmest congratulations to all Member States and tourism institutions on the occasion of International Museum Day 2025. Celebrated annually on 18 May, this global event highlights the vital role museums play in preserving cultural heritage, fostering tourism growth, and promoting sustainable development.

Under the 2025 theme “The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities” the ECO Secretariat recognizes the invaluable contributions of museums across the ECO region in nurturing knowledge, identity, and creativity. The region, home to some of the world’s most ancient civilizations and rich cultural legacies, boasts a vast network of museums that reflect the diverse heritage and shared values of its peoples.

The ECO Secretariat commends the efforts of national authorities, museum professionals, and cultural stakeholders in Member States who work tirelessly to protect and present this heritage for future generations. The Secretariat also underlines its commitment to enhancing cultural cooperation, including through initiatives that support museum development like night visit to museums or innovative museum concepts, capacity building and joint exhibitions among ECO countries.

As part of the implementation of the tourism cooperation initiatives, cultural heritage and tourism diplomacy will continue to play an important role in strengthening regional solidarity and mutual understanding.
