The ECO Secretariat hosted a delegation of Tehran-based African Ambassadors for a joint briefing session aimed at fostering closer ties and exploring avenues for collaboration between ECO and the African Union (AU). Inaugurating the discussions, Dr. Asad M. Khan provided an overview of the organization’s evolution, objectives, and initiatives. Presentations on sectoral activities and initiatives were delivered by the Deputy Secretaries General, showcasing the ECO’s work in trade, transport, energy, and connectivity.
On behalf of the African Group, H.E. Saliou Niang Dieng, Dean of the African Group and Ambassador of Senegal in Tehran, comprehensively briefed on the African Union. He highlighted the AU’s commitment to fostering regional integration across the African continent and stressed the importance of collaboration between regional organizations to address global challenges collectively. H.E. Sidi Mohammad, Ambassador of Mauritania in Tehran, briefed the attendees on modalities for formally deepening engagements between the two organizations.
The session concluded with an exchange of views on potential areas of cooperation. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening ties between ECO and the African Union, with a shared focus on exploring practical avenues for future collaboration and exchanging best practices.
