Ambassador Dr. Huseyin Avni Bicakli, the ECO Deputy Secretary General delivered a video statement in Intergovernmental Negotiating Body (INB) organized by World Health Assembly on 29-30 September. The event was organized under the theme of “better protection against future pandemics.”

In his video statement, Ambassador Huseyin Avni Bicakli, voiced that the ECO Secretariat had formulated guidelines for its Member States and encouraged the Member States to keep their border crossing points open specially for medical supplies, foods; and to ensure free passage of foods and medicines at Border Crossing Points (BCPs) of ECO's main corridors to countervail drastic effect of COVID-19 on the region.

He also emphasized on the creation of Regional Consultation Mechanism for collaboration with WHO and other relevant international organizations; immediate coordinated health response to suppress the transmission and end the pandemic; scaling up health capacities for testing, tracing, quarantine and treatment, steady assistance to most deserving Member States on account of any medical requirements and ensuring genuine supply chains to be intact to facilitate the region would be a good solution for better protect against future pandemic.

Dr. Bicakli stated that he was optimistic about the future and hoped for solidarity and political will to mitigate the crisis together.
