ECO Secretariat participated in the 7th World Health Summit on 29-30 April, 2019, in Kish Island, I.R. Iran, upon the invitation sent by the Iranian authorities. The World Health Summit is the annual conference of the M8 Alliance of Academic Health Centers, Universities and National Academies. Through the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) for Health, it is organized in collaboration with all National Academies of Medicine and Science.

The World Health Summit aims to improve health all over the planet, catalyzing that process through collaboration and open dialogue, and steering tomorrow’s agenda to improve research, education, healthcare, and policy outcomes. The program commenced with opening speeches of H.E. Es'hag Jahangiri, First Vice-President, I.R. of Iran, and H.E. Dr. Saeed Namaki, Minister of Health & Medical Education, I.R. Iran, and then continued with many sessions on various topics; planetary health, climate change, medical education and health in the 21st century, global health in the transitional world, health in uncertain situation, mental health and non-communicable diseases as well as sustainable health development.
HRSD Director of ECO, Kaan Sayin participated in the opening ceremony and some further sessions of the program. He had the opportunity to meet the high level officials from the Ministery of Health & Medical Education of I.R. Iran, and WHO representatives. The event in particular, enabled the presentation of the newly revised draft ECO Plan of Action on Health, to H.E. Dr.Yelzhan Birtanov, Minister of Healthcare of the Republic of Kazakhstan and also as an article in the printed newsletter of the platform.
