The ECO Secretariat is participating virtually in the Joint Workshop of the Global Framework for the Progressive Control of Transboundary Animal Diseases (GF-TADs) West Eurasia for Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) and Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) Regional Roadmaps, taking place from 11 to 13 November 2025 in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, in a hybrid format.

The workshop brings together experts and officials from across the region to review the status of FMD and PPR, share national updates, discuss vaccination strategies, and coordinate regional approaches to disease control. The event also includes discussions on the proposed ECO Regional Strategy for the Control and Eradication of PPR, presented by the PPR Global Eradication Programme Secretariat.

On the opening day, 11 November, Mr. Can Aygül, Director for Agriculture and Industry at the ECO Secretariat, delivered a statement highlighting the vital role of livestock in regional economies and food security, and underscoring the importance of collective regional efforts to combat transboundary animal diseases. He also outlined ECO’s ongoing initiatives under the Regional Programme for Food Security (RPFS) and the ECO Permanent Veterinary Commission (ECO-VECO) to strengthen relevant areas of cooperation and veterinary capacities across Member States. The ECO Secretariat will continue to actively engage in the workshop and the consultation processes related to the control and eradication of PPR.
