On March 13, 2023, the ECO Secretary General Ambassador Khusrav Noziri and the ECI President Mr. Murodjon Buriboev jointly inaugurated a Nowruz Ceremony at the ECO Culture Institute in Tehran. The event’s festivities were attended by Ambassadors of ECO Member States to Iran, including Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, other members of diplomatic corps as well as some local dignitaries and guests.

Speaking at the gathering, the ECO Secretary General briefed the audience about historical importance of Nowruz, noting that the occasion bears some divine characteristics to replenish the moral and social values of the mankind. Marking the beginning of Persian New Year, the festival strengthens the bonds of peace and cordiality between different peoples and cultures, the Secretary General underscored. He said that ECO is a very unique region, bearing the benevolence, harmony and peaceful coexistence as its core and inherent values.

Some sideline activities, including a photo exhibition and demonstration of region’s handicrafts, were also organized and dedicated to Nowruz, reflecting the relevance and significance of the festival in ECO Member States.
