On the conclusion of the 15th ECO Summit, the ECO Secretary General, H.E. Khusrav NOZIRI and Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, H.E. Mr. Rashid Meredov, held a joint media conference in Ashgabat. The ECO Secretary General, in his remarks, expressed his gratitude to Turkmenistan for the organization of the Summit and briefed the media about the significant outcomes of the Summit. He said that ECO attaches utmost respect and significance to Turkmenistan as one of its key members and appreciated the recent lead role and support of Turkmenistan on ECO activities for strengthening regional cooperation.

The ECO Secretary General said that “the Ashgabat Consensus for Action” adopted by the 15th Summit provides a way forward towards realization of the principal goal of sustainable socio-economic development and prosperity in the ECO region. He informed that the Memorandum of Understanding on establishment of the corridor management mechanism of the KTI (Kazakhstan- Turkmenistan – Iran) signed during the Summit will pave the way for the commercialization of the existing railway corridor between the three en-route countries and beyond. While talking about the progress made in the field of external relations, Mr. NOZIRI particularly mentioned that during the Summit, with support of Turkmenistan, ECO and UNESCAP have signed Memorandum of Understanding for further institutionalizing the existing cooperative relations between the two organizations.

In return, the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan highlighted the importance of ECO for enhancing the regional trade and improving the economies of the Member States. He emphasized on the implementation of the ECO projects fostering regional development in various fields. In the concluding remarks, H.E. Mr. Rashid Meredov expressed his satisfaction on the conclusions and key decisions taken by the ECO leadership during the Summit in pursuit of the common agenda of the regional socio-economic development and prosperity in the region.
