On the sidelines of the “3rd International High-Level Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development” 2018-2028” in Dushanbe, Ambassador Khusrav Noziri, Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), met with Mr. Dmitry Mariyasin, Deputy Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).
Ambassador Noziri welcomed UNECE’s collaborative approach with ECO and highlighted several ongoing activities and projects, including the ECO Clean Energy Center, ECO-REM, and various transport initiatives. He emphasized UNECE’s significance as a key partner for ECO and sought UNECE’s support for capacity-building projects, knowledge sharing initiatives and collaboration on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Ambassador Noziri also mentioned ongoing preparations for developing an Action Plan on Policy Coherence and the upcoming 1st Sustainable Development Forum, extending an invitation to UNECE to participate.
Mr. Mariyasin reiterated UNECE’s readiness for enhanced collaboration with ECO, particularly on transport and disaster risk reduction (DRR) issues. He proposed organizing a joint meeting of the Customs Working Group in Geneva next year, emphasizing UNECE’s preparedness to support capacity-building and training initiatives, particularly in the realm of water management.
