ECO Secretary General Dr. Asad M. Khan, led the ECO delegation at the Welcoming Ceremony of the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3), held in Awaza, Turkmenistan.
The event was attended by Heads of State/Government, Ministers, and representatives of international organizations, underlining the international commitment to overcoming LLDC-specific development challenges.
Following the opening ceremony, Secretary General Khan joined the Opening Plenary meeting, underscoring ECO’s pivotal role in advocating for the interests of landlocked member states and contributing to global dialogue on solutions for sustainable development.
On 6 August, on the margins of the LLDC3, the ECO will also host a Ministerial Side Event on implementing the Awaza Programme of Action. As a regional organization with seven landlocked member states, ECO is committed to sharing insights and best practices in physical connectivity, trade integration, energy, tourism, agriculture, and industrial growth. This side event will better showcase ECO’s alignment with the new Programme of Action for the landlocked developing countries for the decade 2024-2034.
