The ECO Secretary General, Dr. Asad M. Khan, held a bilateral meeting with Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan in charge of energy issues H. E. Mr. Batyr Amanov on the sidelines of the 1st ECO Forum on Sustainable Development and expressed gratitude to Turkmenistan for its active role and commitment to the ECO’s objectives aimed at fostering economic development in the region. The Secretary General also commended the excellent organization of the Forum and extended his appreciation for the warm hospitality extended by Turkmenistan.
During their meeting, Dr. Khan and H.E. Mr. Batyr Amanov engaged in a constructive dialogue, discussing the successful organization of the First Sustainable Development Goals Forum and the importance of the recent High-Level Meeting of Deputy Foreign Ministers, which focused on necessary reforms and enhanced cooperation within ECO. Both leaders emphasized that 2025 could be a pivotal year for advancing regional collaboration through upcoming ECO Ministerial Meetings.
The meeting also underscored Turkmenistan’s pivotal role in advancing the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project, which connects three ECO member states and is crucial for regional energy cooperation. Dr. Khan reaffirmed the ECO’s support for this strategic initiative, recognizing its potential to enhance energy security and economic ties among member states. This meeting lays the groundwork for stronger collaboration in the oil and gas sector, contributing to the overall goals of sustainable development within the ECO region.
