On June 8, 2022 H.E. Mr. Khusrav Noziri met with H.E. Mr. Liu Zhenmin, UN Undersecretary General for economic and social affairs.
During the meeting ECO Secretary General illustrated ECO-UN partnership during its period of interaction and stressed out importance of enhancing it in line with sustainable development goals bearing in mind challenges and shared interests of ECO Member States. Secretary General proposed to more increased ECO-UN cooperation within projects in Trade, Energy, Transport, Environment and other areas covered by ECO priority areas. Furthermore, Mr. Noziri added possibility of ECO collaboration towards UN Water Conference to be organized in 2023 by the Republic of Tajikistan and the Kingdom of Netherlands. The key message of ECO Secretary General was readiness and interest of ECO to strengthen cooperation with all related UN bodies, specially on receiving expertise and donor partnership through close and active dialogue.
UN Undersecretary General welcomed strong interest of ECO in expanding cooperation and briefed on importance of active participation to UN General Assembly week dedicated to different areas of high-level dialogue. Additionally, Mr. Zhenmin emphasized significance of ECO to promote SDG within its member states. He added that ECO may contribute that its member states’ national strategies would address and comply with SDGs. UN representative proposed ECO may increase its efforts to reinforce its cooperation with UN specialized agencies which may meet aspirations of both sides to make result-oriented activities.
The sides agreed to continue dialogue within upcoming UN General Assembly week to be held in New-York on September 2022.
