Within the framework of his participation in the 26th Meeting of the ECO Council of Ministers in Tashkent, the ECO Secretary General met with the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, H.E. Mr. Jeyhun Baramov.

Within the framework of his participation in the 26th Meeting of the ECO Council of Ministers in Tashkent, the ECO Secretary General met with the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, H.E. Mr. Jeyhun Baramov.

The bilateral interaction held on January 24, 2023 was aimed at reviewing the overall developments in the region as well as prospects of enhancing cooperation amongst the Member States under the ECO Chairmanship of Azerbaijan in 2023.

Explaining the concept of Azerbaijan’s Chairmanship that declares the 2023 as the “Year of Green Transition and Interconnectivity”, the Honourable Foreign Minister believed that more coordination and efforts are required by Member States to ensure an expeditious implementation of their agenda of joint regional progress and development. He emphasized that Azerbaijan is determined to explore every possibility and create more conducive environment for collectively working in certain development areas, most prominently, the increased energy cooperation in the region. In this regard, he noted the importance of ECO Clean Energy Center established in Baku. Moreover, he highlighted the significance of Trans-Caspian and North-South Corridors for expanded transit connectivity.

The ECO Secretary General acknowledged the role and contribution of Azerbaijan in regional development as well as augmenting the ECO Agenda of cooperation. He expressed his pleasure and satisfaction over the concept of Azerbaijan’s Chairmanship, considering this quite important for greater connectivity and integration in the ECO Region.
