On the sidelines of 26th Meeting of the Council of Ministers (COM), the ECO Secretary General Ambassador Khusrav Noziri met with the Foreign Minister of Pakistan, H.E. Mr. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to discuss overall economic situation of the region and the hard working conditions given the developing global scenarios.

Complimenting the ECO and Ambassador Noziri for successful organization of the 26th Meeting of the Council of Ministers (COM), the honourable Foreign Minister appreciated the ECO for introducing several important initiatives to meet its envisioned objectives, specifically for increasing regional connectivity as well as supporting trade liberation and facilitation, including improvement in intra-regional trade and the region’s contribution to the global business. In addition, he underlined the importance of ECO Trade Agreement (ECOTA), utility of its inclusive implementation and the significance of ECOTA’s framework that envisages multi-dimensional trade & investment strategy to secure maximum results in line with the aspirations of ECO leadership. Making reiteration of Pakistan’s continued support to the Organization and its various projects and programs, he believed that genuine and consolidated efforts were required to expeditiously materialize such ambitious goals, exploiting the real potential and resources of the region. Moreover, he commended the operationalization of ITI Road Corridor, expressing optimism for further development in ITI Train operations.

Valuing the supportive views and useful proposals put forward by the distinguished Minister, the Secretary General thanked the high-level dignitary for participation in the 26th Meeting of the COM. Besides, he acknowledged Pakistan’s continued support to ECO with earnest appreciation. Citing the Pakistan’s diverse and enormous potentials, the Secretary General noted that the country’s more and greater engagements with Member States could boost the region’s economic profile. Seconding the image of certain regional issues portrayed by Honourable Minister in his speech to the COM, he enunciated that the ECO is determinedly set for increasing coordination and collaboration with the member countries to speed up the process of collective regional development and integration.
