On 15 November 2024, the ECO Secretary General Dr. Asad M. Khan had a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, H.E. Mr. Jeyhun Bayramov in Baku on the margins of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29).
During the meeting, the two sides discussed different issues, including the necessary preparations for the upcoming meetings of the ECO Council of Ministers and the Summit and possible ways to strengthen the organization.
Dr. Khan praised the intensive work being undertaken by Azerbaijan in its capacity as COP29 President for seamless convening of the 2024 UN Climate Change Conference (COP29), which makes us proud in the ECO region. He further briefed about the events ECO is going to co-organize on the sidelines of COP29 jointly with COP29 Presidency and UN entities.
Minister Bayramov, while underscoring the complexity of climate negotiations, expressed his conviction that COP29 could lead to tangible results. He reiterated that the collaboration with ECO is important for Azerbaijan irrespective of the heavy task of the COP Presidency. Minister Bayramov also highlighted the readiness of Azerbaijan to organize a productive and result-oriented chairmanship of ECO Summit in 2025.
