Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Dr. Asad M.Khan met with Mr. Almaz Turgunbaev, Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications of the Kyrgyz Republic, to discuss key regional transport and connectivity issues, on the sidelines of the 17th Annual Meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission TRACECA.
During the meeting, the ECO Secretary General underscored the importance of enhancing the connectivity of landlocked countries in the ECO region with international transport networks. He emphasized that the ECO Secretariat has been actively implementing various initiatives to facilitate transit and trade.
The Secretary General also highlighted the upcoming 13th ECO Ministerial Meeting on Transport, to be hosted by the Islamic Republic of Iran, and expressed the hope that all Member States can join the meeting at the ministerial level.
Appreciating the Kyrgyz Republic’s engagement in ECO’s transport and communication initiatives, the Secretary General urged the country to further prioritize this sector.
A key focus of the discussions was the operationalization and commercialization of the regional multimodal corridors.
Informing the SG about the latest developments in the transport sector, taking place in the Kyrgyz Republic, the Deputy Minister reiterated his country’s commitment to enhancing regional connectivity.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of mutual commitment to strengthening transport and communication links in the ECO region.
