On 14 November 2024, the ECO Secretary General Dr. Asad M. Khan had a bilateral meeting with the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan Dr. Kamran Aliyev in Baku. ECO Secretary General congratulated Azerbaijan on the excellent organization of the 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29). While noting with appreciation the timely initiative of Azerbaijan to mobilize law enforcement for enhanced climate action, on the margins of the 2024 UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku, he underlined the critical role that the prosecutors general can play in addressing environmental crimes. He also emphasized the significance of seamless exchange of information and data among the ECO Member States in this field.

Dr. Aliyev while mentioning his country’s due interest in international cooperation and firm determination to continue the initiative during COP30 in Brazil, underscored the necessity of enhancing bilateral cooperation in this respect.

During this meeting, the successful convening of the 4th meeting of the Attorneys/Prosecutors General of the ECO Member States in Baku in 2023 was highlighted, which gave a fresh impetus to the development of legal and law enforcement cooperation among the ECO Member States.
