On 26 April 2024, Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization Ambassador Khusrav Noziri held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr. Umid Shadiev, Chairman of the Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan on the occasion of the declaration of Shahrisabz city as the ECO Tourism Capital for 2024.
H.E. Mr. Umid Shadiev thanked Secretary General Khusrav Noziri for his support for organization of the festivities in Shahrisabz as well as the establishment of the ECO Advisory Committee on Tourism. Mr. Shadiev underscored the role of improving transport links especially by increasing flights among the ECO Member States. He also stated that the Member States could further collaborate on tourism fairs and exhibitions and promotional activities to further develop the tourism sector in the region.
Ambassador Noziri noted that efforts in several dimensions are under way to increase regional connectivity, including the selection of Samarkand Airport as the ECO regional air hub. He also noted that establishing the ECO Advisory Board on Tourism in line with the proposal of Uzbekistan is ongoing.
