The ECO Secretary General Ambassador Khusrav Noziri had a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr. Shahid Ashraf Tarar, Federal Minister for Railways of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on the sidelines of the 12th ECO Ministerial Meeting on Transport in Tashkent, on November 1, 2023.
The Secretary General briefed the honorable Minister on the latest status of the Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul (ITI) Road and railway corridors. The interest of Pakistani business community and relevant issues for development of the corridor were also discussed.
The meeting further discussed on development of railway connectivity in the region and in particular the Rasht- Astara rail corridor that connects Iran to Azerbaijan and Russia providing unique opportunity for Pakistan to connect through shortest possible route to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russia, northern Europe.
The meeting concluded with a view to assuring cooperation in transport and communication for enhancing regional and international connectivity through coordination and collaboration with the Member States.
