On the sidelines of the 35th ECO Regional Planning Council (RPC), ECO Secretary General met with the Heads of Delegations from Turkiye, Azerbaijan and Turkish Cypriot State.
The meeting with the head of Turkish delegation Mr. Selçuk Koç reviewed the role of the RPC exercise with a view to sharpen its effectiveness to better guide the work of the Secretariat. Appreciating Turkiye’s contributions to the process, the Secretary General highlighted that there has been a broad consensus for enhancing ECO’s role in advancing regional cooperation, during the recent High-Level Committee meeting of the Deputy Foreign Ministers of ECO Member States, held on February 3, 2025. The interaction agreed in this respect that a follow-up review of the Council’s meeting and evaluation of its work later during the year might be considered.
The meeting of the Secretary General with the head of Azerbaijan delegation Mr. Emin Mammudov also reviewed the effectiveness of the RPC, while also deliberating on the upcoming important ECO Ministerial Meetings on Trade, Finance, Tourism, Transport, Sustainable Development Goals, and Interior, as well as the preparations for the upcoming 17th ECO Summit to be held on 3-4 July, 2025, in Azerbaijan. Thanking Azerbaijan for its active role in ECO, the Secretary General assured the Azerbaijani side of the Secretariat’s full support for a succesfull and milestone ECO Summit.
The Secretary General’s meeting with the head of delegation of the ECO observer, Turkish Cypriot State, Mr. Mustafa Davulcu discussed the framework of cooperation between the Turkish Cypriot State and ECO, highlighting their contributions to the work of the Organization.
