Dr. Asad M. Khan, ECO Secretary General held a meeting with the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan Zavqizoda Zavqi Amin during his bilateral visit to Dushanbe.

Minister Zavqizoda noted that the Republic of Tajikistan considers the development of cooperation within the ECO as one of the top priorities of its foreign policy. As a result, foreign trade between Tajikistan and ECO countries has shown a trend of continuous growth, with more than 35% of Tajikistan’s annual trade turnover being attributed to the ECO region. He added that Tajikistan’s National Development Strategy for 2030 aims to achieve sustainable economic growth, focusing on energy security, improving communication, ensuring food security, and expanding productive employment.

Dr. Khan described the ECO region as a unique mix of overlapping geography, culture, history, economy and traditions. He underscored the importance of fully capitalising on this potential in the areas of regional trade and transport integration and tourism promotion. He emphasized the need for greater involvement of the trade and finance ministries of Member States in ECO’s work. The Secretary General also briefed on the forthcoming ECO Ministerial meetings and encouraged Tajikistan to actively participate in these events.
