The ECO Secretary General Dr. Asad M. Khan met with Turkmenistan’s Deputy Chairman on Environment and Agriculture on the sidelines of the First Sustainable Development Forum organized in Arkadag City.
The discussionsvunderscored the pressing environmental challenges facing the ECO region, particularly the impacts of climate change, water scarcity, and desertification. The Secretary General emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to transform these challenges into opportunities. They explored avenues for joint initiatives that align national environmental goals with ECO Member States’ efforts, aiming to promote sustainability and resilience across the region.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to strengthen cooperation in agriculture and food security, acknowledging Turkmenistan’s past contributions and encouraging its active participation in upcoming ECO Ministerial Meetings. The Secretary General invited Turkmenistan to lead initiatives that address transboundary challenges and to utilize the High-Level Dialogue Platform on Environmental Cooperation to showcase its leadership on critical issues such as desertification.
