The ECO Secretary General Ambassador Khusrav Noziri participated, as an International Observer, in the national referendum of the Republic of Uzbekistan held on April 30, 2023 in connection with constitutional amendments.
On the sidelines of his visit, Ambassador Noziri met with the Country’s Minister of Transport, H.E. Mr. Ilkhom Mahkamov, as well as the Deputy Minister of Energy, Mr. Akmal Jumanazarov. During his interaction with the Minister of Transport, the two sides discussed the issues of regional transport and communications, emphasizing the importance of corridors development for greater connectivity of the region. Moreover, they reviewed the status of preparations concerning the organization of 12th ECO Ministerial Meeting on Transport to be held in Uzbekistan in 2023.
In his meeting with Deputy Minister of Energy Mr. Akmal Jumanazarov, Ambassador Noziri underscored the significance of energy cooperation amongst the Member States. The two sides took into account some prominent energy initiatives of the Organization, including ECO Clean Energy Center, Regional Electricity Market and Regional Energy Strategy. Their interaction also discussed preparations for the 5th ECO Ministerial Meeting on Energy, which will be hosted by Uzbekistan on May 18-19, 2023.
