The Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization, Amb. Khusrav Noziri, met with the Director of the Asian and Pacific Centre for the Development of Disaster Information Management (APDIM), Ms. Letizia Rossano, at the ECO Headquarters in Tehran.

The Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization, Amb. Khusrav Noziri, met with the Director of the Asian and Pacific Centre for the Development of Disaster Information Management (APDIM), Ms. Letizia Rossano, at the ECO Headquarters in Tehran.

The meeting on February 14, 2022 saw the two sides come together to discuss means for cooperation on Disaster Risk Reduction and their joint project on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management for Cascading Risks in the ECO Region.

During the session Amb. Khusrav Noziri, expressed his gratitude for the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNSCAP) and its regional institute the Asian and Pacific Centre for the Development of Disaster Information Management (APDIM) for generously providing the technical and financial support for the joint ECO-APDIM Project on Enhancing capacity in ECO Member States to scale up disaster management framework for cascading risks. He also expressed hope that APDIM and ECO could enhance cooperation on Disaster Risk Reduction within the ECO Region.

In her comments, Ms. Letizia Rossano also expressed the desire to cooperate on issues of regional interest. The Director discussed the recent documents produced by the Centre on Sand and Dust Storms Risk Assessment in Asia and the Pacific and Guideline on Monitoring and Reporting the Impact of Sand and Dust Storms through the Sendai Framework Monitoring. She also discussed the APDIM Preliminary Assessment of the Gaps and Needs for Disaster Risk Information and Data Management Platforms in Asia and the Pacific Region and expressed hope that the consultative meeting on the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management for Cascading Risks in the ECO Region can identify the requirements and priorities of the region on cascading risks and find common ground on developing a regional plan of action for cascading risks.

ECO Member States and the Asian and Pacific Centre for the Development of Disaster Information Management (APDIM) of ESCAP held the consultative meeting on disaster risk reduction and management for cascading risks from natural and biological hazards on Monday, February 14, 2022 to discuss the sources and implication of risks and biological hazards within the ECO Region.
