An ECO delegation headed by Mr. Jasur Rajabov, Director for Tourism of the ECO Secretariat, visited ECO Chamber of Commerce (ECO-CCI) in Tehran on May 31, 2023.
During the meeting, Mr. Rajabov highlighted that despite being home to 74 UNESCO registered World Heritage Sites and diversity of historical and cultural values as well as evocative memories of the ancient Silk Road, the ECO region has not yet realized its full tourism potential. He further briefed on some recent initiatives and ongoing activities of the Tourism Directorate, such as the establishment of the ECO Tour Operators Network and holding of the 1st Forum of ECO Heads of Tourism Associations, which aim at involving private tourism stakeholders to enhance regional tourism. He also invited ECO-CCI to play a more active role in supporting the tourism sector by involving the private tourism stakeholders to collaborate in establishment of the ECO Region Databank/Catalogue of Specialized Tourism Products and Services, reviving the meetings of the Tourism Committee of ECO Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and jointly organizing the Tourism Investment and Business Conference/Forum and the 1st ECO International Tourism Market Fair.
Ms. Niloufar Assadi, Deputy President for International Affairs of the Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines & Agriculture (ICCIMA), while welcoming the ECO delegation and the briefing on ECO initiatives, informed on their activities in the tourism sector in Iran and expressed their desire to collaborate in jointly organizing regional tourism activities, including B2B Meetings of the Tour Operators, familiarization trips for regional tour operators as well as info tours for social media influencers.
The meeting ended with note of thanks and intentions of closer cooperation from both sides.
