Within sidelines of Second Dushanbe Water Conference ECO Secretary General H.E.Mr.Khusrav Noziri has met with EU Commissioner Mr. Virginijus Sinkeviؤچius, the European commissioner for environment, oceans and fisheries on June 7, 2022.
In addition to the areas covered by commissioner, Mr. Sinkeviؤچius touched upon interest of EU in shared interests that EU and ECO may consider interacting particularly in trade and connectivity. EU Commissioner informed about new EU strategy Global Gateway and its pillar in Central Asia, Team Europe Initiative as an offer to be utilized by ECO’s Central Asian countries.
ECO Secretary General enlightened EU delegates about areas of activities within ECO and stressed that EU and ECO have great potential to make use of close partnership to draw synergies in the region. Secretary General referred good example of ECO partnership with UN institutions and other member of international community.
Mr.Noziri proposed to have regular dialogue to explore opportunities of project based and result oriented joint actions. In this regard appointment of focal points from both sides was raised by ECO Secretary General.
Sides agreed to follow up the outcome of meeting by having consultations between their relevant experts.
