Hamedan – June 11, 2025 

The 3rd ECO Confobition (Conference and Exhibition) on Health Tourism kicked off in Hamedan, a city renowned for its historical significance as the final resting place of Sheikh Al-Rais Abu Ali Ibn-Sina. 

The official opening session began with the welcome remarks from the Governor of Hamedan and high-ranking dignitaries, including the Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, the Deputy Minister of Health, Treatment, and Medical Education of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the ECO Secretary General.

In his address during the conference session, ECO Secretary General, Ambassador Dr. Asad M. Khan, emphasized the growing importance of tourism, particularly health tourism, as a vital driver of sustainable development in the ECO region. He reiterated ECO’s commitment to fostering regional cooperation through the diversification of tourism offerings, including medical and wellness tourism.  

H.E. Minister Seyed Reza Salehi Amiri highlighted the Iranian Government’s strong prioritization of the tourism sector and emphasized its active engagement within the ECO framework. He also proposed the establishment of a joint committee on health tourism under the auspices of ECO to enhance collaboration in this rapidly growing field. 

Over the three-day event, participants will engage in interactive sessions, B2B meetings, exhibitions, and field visits. The Confobition is set to serve as a strategic platform for knowledge exchange, service showcasing, and partnership-building among public and private sector stakeholders from ECO Member States.
