On February 14, 2022 by the invitation of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) the delegation headed by Deputy Secretary General of ECO, Dr.Huseyin Avni Bicakli attended the opening session of the fifty fifth IPCC and Twelfth Session of the Working Group II hosted virtually by German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
The meeting was dedicated to the approval of the Summary for Policymakers (SPM) of the Working Group II contribution to the Sixth Assessment Report and acceptance of the underlying scientific technical assessment. After its conclusion, IPCC-55 will meet to accept the actions taken at the WGII-12 Session.
Having an observer status in IPCC, cooperation in tackling global challenges of climate change and other environmental issues such as biodiversity and land degradation have always been put in the prioritized area of regional dialogue within the Economic Cooperation Organization. As one of the strong supporters of achieving SDGs by its Member States, ECO will further enhance regional outreach to contribute common challenges to add value for their national and global commitments in addressing environmental concerns, particularly fighting against global warming and climate change.
