On May 4, 2023, H.E. Ms. Lalini Veerassamy, International Organization for Migration (IOM) Chief of Mission in Iran, visited the ECO Secretariat.
While welcoming the visiting dignitary and appreciating the International Organization for Migration for its commendable role vis-à-vis migration, the ECO Secretary General Ambassador Khusrav Noziri briefed her in detail on the ECO and its working. Ambassador Noziri also highlighted a key fact that some ECO Member States, i.e., Türkiye, Pakistan, and Iran were among the world’s largest refugee-and-migrant hosting countries.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed various aspects of migration. They also looked forward to commencing efforts for effective implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding, which was signed between the two Organizations in 2009. They further mulled over launching joint projects in areas of climate change, human resources and sustainable development.
IOM is an intergovernmental organization with 178 members and all ECO countries are members of IOM.
