On June 11, 2024, the Islamic Republic of Iran hosted a Preliminary Consultative Meeting in preparation for the 2nd Heads of Tax Administration Meeting.

Attended virtually by relevant experts from the ECO Member States, the meeting was chaired by Mr. Morteza Mollanazar, Deputy Director General, Office of Presidency and International Affairs, National Tax Administration (INTA). In his opening remarks, Mr. Mollanazar expressed optimism that the meeting would pave the way for well-informed decision-making regarding the future trajectory of ECOTAX, aiming to foster enhanced collaboration and effectiveness within the ECO region’s tax administration framework.

Addressing the event, ECO Deputy Secretary General Seyed Mohsen Esperi emphasized the importance of a predictable, uniform and transparent taxation regime to enhance inter-governmental economic cooperation within the region. He urged the implementation of decisions taken during the Preliminary Discussion Meeting and the adoption of the draft agenda for the upcoming 2nd ECO Heads of Tax Administration Meeting, anticipating enhanced cooperation among ECO Member States in taxation matters.

During the meeting, participants deliberated on and adopted the draft agenda for the 2nd Meeting of the ECO Heads of Tax Administration Cooperation Society (ECOTAX). The Republic of Uzbekistan graciously offered to host the meeting in 2024, pending approval from their respective authorities.
