Economic Cooperation Organization

The Ambassador of the Republic of Kenya to the Islamic Republic of Iran, H.E. Joshua I. Gatimu visited the Secretariat of the Economic Cooperation Organization on December 7, 2022. The purpose of his visit was to understand the functioning of the ECO and share his own exposure of East African Community (EAC) with a view to exploring possibility of future cooperation between the two Organizations.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Kenya to the Islamic Republic of Iran, H.E. Joshua I. Gatimu visited the Secretariat of the Economic Cooperation Organization on December 7, 2022. The purpose of his visit was to understand the functioning of the ECO and share his own exposure of East African Community (EAC) with a view to exploring possibility of future cooperation between the two Organizations.

During his meeting with ECO Secretary General H.E. Amb Khusrav Noziri, the visiting envoy was briefed on the activities, engagements and overall working of the ECO. The Organization pursues an open-door policy in connection with its relations with the regional and international organizations which share identical aims and objectives, the ECO Secretary General apprised Ambassador Gatimu.

The Kenyan Ambassador underlined some salient features and role of the East African Community (EAC). He explained that, like ECO, the EAC is focused on development of its member countries, uttering that the EAC aims to, inter alia, strengthen the ties among the member nations through a common market and customs tariff as well as a range of public services for a balanced economic growth within the EAC Region.

The two sides appeared willing and receptive for organizing a Joint ECO-EAC Ambassadorial Meeting in Tehran to find out some possible ways for establishing ECO-EAC cooperative partnership.
