Tehran, March 18, 2025
Representatives from the ECO Secretariat and UNECE reviewed the progress of the UNECE/ECO Coordination Committee on the Trans-Caspian and Almaty-Tehran-Istanbul Corridors. The discussions focused on the implementation of the Committee’s 2023-2025 work program and explored potential cooperation beyond 2025.
Mr. Alireza Mahmoudi, Director for Transport and Communication of the ECO Secretariat emphasized the Organization’s commitment to the Committee’s work, and its readiness to take necessary actions to ensure successful implementation of its objectives.
The parties reaffirmed their commitment to continued collaboration in promoting sustainable and efficient transport links that contribute to regional economic integration.
The ECO Secretariat remains dedicated to working closely with UNECE and other international partners to enhance regional transport corridors and support economic growth in the region.
The establishment of the “Coordination Committee” was decided at the 35th Annual Session of the Working Party on Transport Trends and Economics of UNECE (WP.5) on September 6, 2022, in Geneva, Switzerland.
