On 24 October 2022, H.E. Salman Al Farisi, Secretary General Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) was received by H.E. Amb. Khusrav Noziri, Secretary General Economic Cooperation Organisation at the ECO Secretariat.

On 24 October 2022, H.E. Salman Al Farisi, Secretary General of Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) was received by H.E. Amb. Khusrav Noziri, Secretary General of Economic Cooperation Organisation at the ECO Secretariat.

While welcoming the visiting dignitary and appreciating the excellent organisation of the recently-held International Conference titled “Iran & IORA: Opportunities and Prospects”, hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, ECO Secretary General briefed his counterpart on overall functioning of the Organisation. The Secretary General also touched ECO’s broadening international cooperation with different organizations across the globe. .

While highlighting pursuit of result-oriented focus of ECO, the Secretary General pointed out the immense importance of trade and connectivity as priority in regional cooperation agenda of Organization. The IORA Secretary General was also detailed about the preparations to the upcoming 26th Meeting of ECO Council of Ministers in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The IORA Secretary General, while appreciating the statement of the ECO Secretary General delivered at the “Iran & IORA: Opportunities and Prospects” International Conference, highlighted that there were areas such as Trade & Investment, Tourism and Disaster Management, where both Organizations could establish partnership relations with each other.

The IORA Secretary General mentioned that the ECO Region is producer and IORA is a consumer of agricultural products. In the wake of recent shift in geo-political conditions, changing cuisine culture, and the skyrocketing prices of grains, the prospects of cooperation between both Organizations in the area of food security are more than ever before.

During the meeting, it was agreed that the focal persons would start working on exploring options for cooperation in areas of mutual interest and put efforts for institutionalization of relations between the two Organisations.
